This unique and original piece of audience participation was first introduced by Pete at the 1994 International Ventriloquist Convention. It has since become one of the most HILARIOUS bits of comedy to grace any stage, anywhere! Again, Pete provides the singing voices for the "re-united" couple.
The idea originally came about when Pete had a puppet made that could portray many celebrities, among them, Cher. Pete would don a mustache and a wig to portray Sonny. But after a few trial runs, the idea was abandoned.
While thinking of a new audience participation piece, he came up with the idea of bringing back the Cher character, but with the added twist of a Sonny.
At first, wigs and a mustache were considered, but that had already been done, and trying to get people to move their mouths in-sync to the music would be touch and go at best.
So Pete opted to have original, one of a kind custom masks made in the likeness of the famous couple. And the rest, as they say, is history!
"The funniest part always seems to be the person playing Cher! Without prompting, they assume all of her physical mannerisms!" Oh yes, the part of Cher is played by the male audience member, while Sonny is played by a female!
Next time you catch Pete's act, sit up front. You MAY be lucky enough to be asked up on stage to be a star!
